Vol. 577 No. 3

Written Answers. - Site Acquisition.

Jack Wall

Ceist:

227 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Finance the position in regard to the acquisition of a site for a school in Castledermot, County Kildare; the number of meetings his Department has had with the Office of Public Works in regard to the site; the number of meetings the Office of Public Works has had with the vendor of the site; the dates of such meetings; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [31311/03]

The Commissioners of Public works act as agents for the Department of Education and Science in the acquisition of sites for primary schools. A number of sites have been identified and technically assessed in Castledermot. Discussions have also taken place with Kildare County Council regarding planning matters on the various sites. As there are a number of options still under consideration, it would be inappropriate to comment on any particular site at this stage. However, further progress on the acquisition of a site for Castledermot national school is dependent on reaching agreement with a vendor on a fair and reasonable price for a suitable site and funding being made available by the Department of Education and Science.
