Vol. 577 No. 3

Written Answers. - Natural Gas Grid.

Emmet Stagg

Ceist:

367 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources if he has received a report commissioned by An Bord Gáis and carried out by consultants (details supplied) on the needs and capacity of the national gas network and the volumes of gas required in the years 2000 to 2025; if he will make the report publicly available; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [30902/03]

The report, Gas 2025-Irish Natural Gas Infrastructure, dated September 1998, was carried out jointly by M.C. O'Sullivan, Sofregaz and Penspen on behalf of the technical group, a sub-committee of the gas 2025 steering group, which was set up in 1997 by the Department of Public Enterprise and Bord Gáis Éireann. While the report deals with the needs and capacity of the national gas network and the volumes of gas required up to 2025, the main thrust of the report is the analysis of future gas supply options and covers evaluation of infrastructure configurations, indigenous gas supply potential and security of supply issues.

The demand group, the second of three sub-committees of the gas 2025 steering group, engaged the ESRI to assist in updating the gas demand forecasts to 2025. Details of the demand group's report are available on the Department's website at http://www.dcmnr.ie, together with details of other reports carried out by and on behalf of the Department and the gas 2025 steering group.
