Vol. 577 No. 3

Written Answers. - Fire Stations.

John Deasy

Ceist:

535 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government the position regarding the provision of a new fire station at Ardmore, County Waterford; when he expects work to commence; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [30685/03]

Waterford County Council's proposal for a new fire station at Ardmore, at an estimated cost of €775,000, is due to proceed to construction stage under the fire services capital programme. On 12 September 2003, approval issued to the council to invite tenders for the project. A tender proposal is now awaited in my Department and on receipt a decision will issue as soon as possible. An initial recoupment of €90,400 to the county council to meet expenditure already incurred on the project, in respect of site acquisition costs, fees, etc., has recently been sanctioned by my Department.
