554 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government his views on the need to fast-track the Schull water supply scheme in County Cork in view of the severe hardship caused in the Schull area due to a shortage of water; and if full co-operation from his Department will be forthcoming in this regard. The Schull water supply scheme is included in my Department's water services investment programme 2003-2005, as a scheme to commence construction in 2004. My Department, which approved the scheme's preliminary report in September 2000, has recently approved the brief submitted by Cork County Council for the appointment of a consultant for the design and construction phases. It is now a matter for Cork County Council to proceed with the preparation of contract documents with a view to advancing the scheme to tender stage as soon as possible.
