Vol. 581 No. 1

Personal Statement by Minister of State.

I refer to remarks made by me yesterday in the House which were reported in this morning's newspapers. I wish to apologise for those remarks. No slur was intended on the professional or personal integrity of Maura Derrane, journalist, or on the professionalism of TV3. I also apologise to RTE for implying, by way of a slip of the tongue, that it has the resources to support a third channel.

The Minister of State should keep going.

The Minister of State never apologised to me.

I am very grateful that the Minister of State clarified the position. I did not hear him apologise to Deputy Deasy for remarks——

The matter is now closed, Deputy. If you have an issue appropriate to the Order of Business we can move on.

The Minister of State was let in before the Order of Business proper.

He gave notice to the Chair that he wished to raise the matter.

There was very little chivalry.
