Vol. 637 No. 7

Requests to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 32.

Before coming to the Order of Business, I propose to deal with a number of notices under Standing Order 32. I will call on Deputies in the order in which they submitted their notices to my office.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil to raise a matter of public interest requiring urgent consideration, namely, the most recent public shooting which occurred yesterday afternoon in Stillorgan, demonstrating the urgent need for the Garda to give greater priority to the Crumlin feud which continues to threaten lives and for the Government to make every necessary resource available for this to happen; and given the young age of the man who was shot and the two men arrested by the Garda — 24, 21 and 22 years, respectively — the urgent need for the Government to introduce focused and holistic programmes to create a real, attractive and alternative future for children who are at risk of becoming involved in serious crime when they grow up.

I seek the adjournment of the House under Standing Order 32 to discuss the use of the Criminal Justice Act on those involved in the fishing industry, which has resulted in searches of boats and houses in Dingle, Castletownbere, Galway and Killybegs without fishery officers being present and is a consequence of the Fisheries Bill 2006 which criminalises those involved in the fishing sector; and the refusal of the Government to make provision for administrative sanctions in the Bill to deal with minor offences.

Having considered the matters raised, they are not in order under Standing Order 32.
