Vol. 638 No. 2

Requests to Move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 32.

Before coming to the Order of Business, I propose to deal with a number of notices under Standing Order 32. I will call on Deputies in the order in which they submitted notices to my office.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil to discuss the following urgent matter: the deteriorating situation in Burma/Myanmar and the need for the European Union and its member Parliaments to discuss the matter and issue statements of unequivocal support for the movement for democracy in that country and of concern for the safety of those who are demonstrating.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil to discuss the following urgent matter: the need to put in place accessible, 24 hour, seven day psychiatric and social care services to address the urgent needs of people at risk from suicide and self harm, given the high level of suicide in Irish society.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil to discuss the following urgent matter: the proposal under the national cancer strategy to close 13 cancer services located throughout the country, particularly breast cancer services at Mallow General Hospital.

Having considered the matters raised, I do not consider them in order under Standing Order 32.

A Cheann Comhairle, I ask you to consider allowing the matter of Burma/Myanmar to be raised in another way. There is a precedent for not allowing matters to be raised under Standing Order 32 because they lack urgency. I cannot think of a topic so clearly urgent as the threat to the lives of people demonstrating for democracy on the streets.

The matter does not come within Standing Order 32. However, I will seek to accommodate it in some other way.

I wish to seek an adjournment under Standing Order 32.

Unfortunately, Deputy Crawford, I do not have notice of the matter.
