Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 21 the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputies Niall Collins, Dan Neville and Deirdre Clune — the introduction and implementation of the new child care subvention scheme; (2) Deputy Thomas Broughan — the need to establish a ministerial task force to carry out a traceability audit of all building sites allegedly supplied with defective stone infill by a quarry group; (3) Deputy Deirdre Clune — the need to ensure the new national child care investment programme community child care subvention scheme 2008-2010 addresses the needs of working parents on low income; (4) Deputy Ulick Burke — the need to acquire a site and commence construction of a new school in County Galway; (5) Deputy Seymour Crawford — restructuring of Monaghan General Hospital; (6) Deputy Edward O'Keeffe — that action be taken to address the serious loss of jobs in Mitchelstown where more than 1,800 people had their employment terminated in the past 18 months and the failure of the IDA and Enterprise Ireland to address the issue; (7) Deputy Bernard Durkan — the site development costs amounting to circa €130,000 of the subsided sites at Easton Mews, Leixlip, County Kildare, which were previously the subject of a contract between voluntary housing group Respond, as developers and the current Easton Mews Construction Company on foot of provision made by Kildare County Council wherein a decision was made to the effect that the Easton Mews Development costs were to be met by Respond directly, or through a figure retained by Kildare County Council for this purpose, if the Minister will outline the relevant details of the contract or arrangement entered into by Kildare County Council and Respond and the construction company, including any agreements, contacts or indentures that might affect the development costs to the purchasers of the service sites at Easton Mews, Leixlip and if the Minister will make a statement on the matter; (8) Deputy Dan Neville — national child care investment programme community child care subvention scheme 2008-10; (9) Deputy Brian O'Shea — the unsatisfactory nature of the reply to Parliamentary Question No. 1132 of 26 September 2007; (10) Deputy Simon Coveney — continuing frustration of staff and management at the Mercy Hospital in Cork City due to inability to open the newly built accident and emergency department because of staffing problems; the need to facilitate the opening of the accident and emergency department to relieve pressure on Cork University Hospital; (11) Deputy Beverley Flynn — that this House, having regard to the hardship endured by the various communities of South Mayo, most notably in the Neale, Kilmaine and Shrule areas, as a result of the consistent annual flooding resolve that immediate remedial works be put in place to prevent further recurrences of this unacceptable situation; (12) Deputy Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin — the need to initiate an effective public transport system for rural communities and for older people in particular; (13) Deputies Michael D. Higgins and Joe Costello — the urgent need for the Government and the EU to engage with the members of ASEAN for the opening of dialogue with the democratic forces in Burma; (14) Deputy Joe Costello — the need for the European Union and all its member states to maintain maximum pressure on the brutal military regime in Burma/Myanmar and to give full support to the pro-democracy movement in that country; and (15) Deputy Jimmy Deenihan — the delay by the Department of Education and Science in sending a technical team which was approved in January 2006 to commence planning for an eight classroom school to replace an existing defective building.

The matters raised by Deputies Niall Collins, Dan Neville and Deirdre Clune, Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin, Michael D. Higgins and Joe Costello, and Ulick Burke have been selected for discussion.
