Vol. 666 No. 1

Requests to Move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 32.

Anois, iarratais chun tairisceana a dhéanamh an Dáil a chur ar athló faoi Bhuan Ordú 32. We will now deal with requests to move the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 32.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 32 to raise the following matter of local and national importance, namely, the serious implications for patients and their families of the decision to close almost 60 respite beds at the Harold's Cross Hospice and the need for the Minister for Health and Children to take steps to ensure that funding is provided to allow the continued operation of these badly needed beds which are used primarily for elderly patients suffering from severe arthritis.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 32 to raise the following matter of serious national importance, namely, the fact that nine patients in the north east had a missed diagnosis of lung cancer, thus losing valuable time for their essential medical treatment, that at least one of these patients would have had a major chance of their cancer being cured, that others had their lives shortened by a valuable period of months and that eight of these patients have since died; and the need now for an independent inquiry into why a clear warning given seven years ago by a consultant radiologist to the health authorities that the radiologists in the hospitals concerned were under intolerable stress, that a dangerous situation existed for patients and staff and that mistakes would be made was ignored by the same health authorities.

Tar éis breithnithe a dhéanamh ar na nithe ardaithe, níl siad in ord faoi Bhuan Ordú 32. Having considered the matters raised, they are not in order under Standing Order 32.
