Vol. 669 No. 3

Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 21 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Brian Hayes — the need for the Minister for Education and Science and the Minister of State with responsibility for children to respond to the genuine concern that exists within the national youth service about the 10% cutback across the board that has now been imposed upon the sector; if they will engage constructively with the NYCI to address this concern so that some flexibility can be found; and if they will make a statement on the matter; (2) Deputy Timmy Dooley — the need to increase services in respect of cystic fibrosis patients in the mid-west region; (3) Deputy Joe Costello — the need for the Minister for Education and Science to provide permanent accommodation and permanent recognition for Glasnevin Educate Together national school, Dublin 9; (4) Deputy Shane McEntee — the collapse of the oral hearing on the biomass combined heat and power plant and an associated ash landfill at College Road, Nobber, County Meath; (5) Deputy James Bannon — the need for the Minister for Finance to establish a mortgage rescue scheme to minimise mortgage repossession, which is a potentially major cause of homelessness; (6) Deputy Bernard J. Durkan — the urgent and pressing issue of mortgage supplement in the case of a person whom the HSE is only prepared to assist on a 50% basis as her mortgage is in joint names, but against whose husband there is a barring order, and if the Minister will make a statement on the matter; (7) Deputy Paul Connaughton — the matter of the installation of ducting for broadband purposes as part of the new sewerage and water treatment schemes for Tuam, County Galway; (8) Deputy Joan Burton — the underfunding of pension schemes in the private sector; (9) Deputy Seán Sherlock — the replacement of the weir in Fermoy and the flood alleviation works in the town; (10) Deputy Deirdre Clune — the provision of dental services in the Cork region for adults with an intellectual disability who require treatment under general anaesthetic; and (11) Deputy Jimmy Deenihan — the drastic effect that the education cuts recently announced in the budget will have on Scoil Mhuire na mBráithre, Christian Brothers primary school, Tralee, County Kerry, resulting in the loss of at least five teachers and the reduction of other services.

The matters raised by Deputies Dooley, Clune, Burton and Sherlock have been selected for discussion.
