Vol. 706 No. 1

Requests to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 32.

Before coming to the Order of Business, I propose to deal with a number of notices under Standing Order 32. I will call on the Deputies in the order in which they submitted their notices to my office.

I seek the Adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 32 to raise a matter of national importance, namely, the proposed downgrading and threatened closure of Belmullet District Hospital, Swinford District Hospital and Ballina District Hospital and the removal of €531,000 from the budget of Áras Attracta, Swinford; the implication of these cutbacks and the knock-on effects for Mayo General Hospital whose budget for 2010 has been cut by €10 million, which will devastate health services in County Mayo.

Ba mhaith liom an Dáil a chur ar athló chun an cheist rí-thábhachtach seo a phlé, the need to discuss the report published yesterday by the Human Rights Commission on the provision of care for people with disabilities at a centre in Galway which has ramifications for 8,000 adults and 400 children living with disability across this State and, the need for the Government to reverse the cuts in funding and to make available the necessary resources as a matter of priority.

I seek the Adjournment of the Dáil under the Standing Order 32 to raise a matter of national importance, namely, the fact that the incineration of waste, in particular at large facilities, will become significantly more expensive under the proposed system of financial levies announced under the draft environment Bill by the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, which could hit 600,000 tonne capacity incinerators with waste disposal levies of up to €120 per tonne, four times the current landfill levy.

Having considered the matters raised, they are not in order under Standing Order 32.
