Vol. 736 No. 3

Requests to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 32

Before coming to the Order of Business, I propose to deal with two notices under Standing Order 32.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 32 to raise an issue of national importance, namely, the proposed extradition to the USA of an Irish citizen, Seán Garland; the politically motivated accusations that have been made against him; and the warrant issued against him, which was processed in camera by a US grand jury, a process which is universally discredited. The US justice department is persisting with its accusations even though it has failed to produce any evidence that Mr. Garland has been involved in illegal currency.

Thank you, Deputy.

If the extradition of Seán Garland is allowed to proceed, it will be a miscarriage of justice.

Further comments are not permitted under Standing Order 32.

I appeal to the Tánaiste, in particular, to ensure that will not happen.

The Tánaiste might have a view on it.

I am quite certain he would have a lot of company. Perhaps half the Cabinet would be on the plane on the way back with him.

The Deputy must stick to what he submitted to my office. The matter he has raised is not in order. As Deputy Crowe is not in attendance to pursue his notice under Standing Order 32, we will proceed to the Order of Business.
