Topical Issue Matters

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 27A and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Michelle Mulherin - the need to conduct a regulatory impact assessment before placing the burden for sick pay of employees on business; (2) Deputy Gerald Nash - the need for the Office of Public Works to undertake further flood relief work at Northlands, Bettystown, County Meath; (3) Deputy Jim Daly - the need in the interest of the safety of road users to deal with unmaintained roadside verges; (4) Deputy Brendan Griffin - the threatened loss of 30 jobs at Simpson Strongtie, Killorglin, County Kerry; (5) Deputy Charles Flanagan - the need to ensure community protection in view of the recent gangland killing in Portarlington, County Laois; (6) Deputy Jonathan O'Brien - the need for mandatory training for teachers to deal with bullying at school; (7) Deputy Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin - the selection criteria used to decide upon the locations of the priority primary care centres as announced on 17 July 2012; (8) Deputy Michael Conaghan - the dismissal of trade union workers at the Gleeson Group warehouse, Ballyfermot, Dublin; (9) Deputy Dessie Ellis - the position regarding Ms Marian Price who is being held with no charge at the behest of the British Secretary of State for the North of Ireland; (10) Deputy Niall Collins - the arrest of two men in Harcourt Street, Dublin, suspected of spying on Garda headquarters; (11) Deputy Mattie McGrath - the ongoing redundancy issue surrounding the abandoned Tipperary Hostel project; and (12) Deputy Billy Kelleher - the need for further clarity on the agreement reached at the Labour Relations Commission with medical organisations representing hospital consultants.

The matters raised by Deputies Jonathan O'Brien, Brendan Griffin, Billy Kelleher and Mattie McGrath have been selected for discussion.
