Topical Issue Matters

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 29A and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Brian Stanley - the need for a plan for the future of Abbeyleix hospital; (2) Deputy Sean Fleming - the future of services at the Midland Regional Hospital, Portlaoise, County Laois; (3) Deputy Niall Collins - the status of the tender process for the new school building for Coláiste Chiaráin, Croom, County Limerick; (4) Deputy Thomas Byrne - the need for the Minister for Education and Skills to set out his response to the fallout of the Carillion collapse, including the entering into examinership of the Sammon Group and its impact on school completions and the plight of subcontractors; (5) Deputy Mary Butler - to discuss the unique south-eastern model in residential care homes; (6) Deputy Thomas Pringle - the implications of high insurance costs on men's sheds in Donegal and throughout the country; (7) Deputies Carol Nolan and Barry Cowen - to discuss the unexpected closure of the out-of-hours GP services in Offaly, the subsequent discontinuation of clinics in Birr and Edenderry, and the GP shortage that has contributed to this rationalisation; (8) Deputies Dessie Ellis and Mary Lou McDonald - the plans for the construction of metro north and their possible implications; (9) Deputy John Curran - the serious reduction of garda numbers at Rathcoole Garda station; (10) Deputy Seamus Healy - that arising from inappropriate admissions of children and adolescents with mental health issues to the paediatrics ward at South Tipperary General Hospital, additional acute inpatient beds for children and adolescents with mental health issues be provided immediately; (11) Deputy Pearse Doherty - the need for the Minister for Health to provide the additional staffing and other resources needed to address the escalating crisis within diabetes care services in the north west; (12) Deputy Eamon Scanlon - to discuss the decision not to award medical cards automatically to all cancer patients; (13) Deputy Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire - to ask the Minister for Education and Skills to discuss the announcement of new schools in the Cork area; (14) Deputy Aengus Ó Snodaigh - to discuss the Israeli army's recent killing of civilians and a journalist in Gaza and the Irish Government's response; (15) Deputies Fiona O'Loughlin and Martin Heydon - the need to accelerate the delivery of increased capacity at second level in Kildare South, in particular the new school build for St. Paul's, Monasterevin and proposed extensions in Athy, Kilcullen and Newbridge; (16) Deputy Martin Ferris - the future of rural post offices; (17) Deputy James Browne - the need for the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport to outline his plans for the future of Rosslare Europort; (18) Deputy Frank O'Rourke - to discuss the HSE programme, Progressing Disability Rights for Children and Young Adults, in terms of delivery of key services and resources in Kildare north; (19) Deputy Louise O'Reilly - the need to discuss the issue of non-specialist doctors operating as consultants; (20) Deputies Clare Daly, Richard Boyd Barrett, Paul Murphy and Mick Wallace - to discuss the recent bombings in Syria; (21) Deputy Mattie McGrath - the urgent need to address the deficit in bed capacity within the psychiatric services in County Tipperary; (22) Deputy Stephen S. Donnelly - the death of a man in the waiting area of Tallaght Hospital emergency department on 14 April; (23) Deputy Maureen O'Sullivan - Irish Naval Service involvement in the Mediterranean and the situation in Libyan reception centres; (24) Deputy Kevin O'Keeffe - to have the position of medical officer at St. Patrick's community hospital, Fermoy, County Cork, filled urgently; (25) Deputy Peadar Tóibín - the need for a rail line from Dublin to Navan; (26) Deputies Bríd Smith and Catherine Murphy - the recent and escalating developments regarding Independent News and Media, INM, and the Office of the Director of Corporate Enforcement, ODCE, investigation into a potential data breach within the company; (27) Deputy Declan Breathnach - the need for proper learning for life education, incorporating mental health, sex and relationship education, at both primary and secondary level; and (28) Deputy Niamh Smyth - the need to invest in hospital services in Cavan.

The matters raised by Deputies Niall Collins, Brian Stanley and Clare Daly, Richard Boyd Barrett, Paul Murphy and Mick Wallace have been selected for discussion.
