Personal Explanation by Minister of State
I thank the Ceann Comhairle for allowing me to return to the House to correct the record of the Dáil. When responding to a Topical Issue debate raised by Deputy Gannon which was taken on 17 February 2022, I indicated from my script that the unlicensed product Cariban is considered to be a food supplement in Ireland. This was incorrect. The Department of Health officials have since been advised by the Health Products Regulatory Authority, HPRA, that it would not be appropriate to classify Cariban as a food supplement. I request that the record of the Dáil be corrected to reflect this. I regret any confusion the statement may have caused.
