Scrutiny of EU Legislative Proposals

There are two Schedule B EU legislative proposals before the joint committee. EU COM (2018) 630 is a proposal for a regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council establishing the European Cybersecurity Industrial, Technology and Research Competence Centre and the Network of National Coordination Centres. It is agreed that there are no subsidiarity concerns with this proposal. Therefore, it does not require further scrutiny.

EU COM (2018) 657 is a proposal for a Council directive on the position to be taken on behalf of the European Union at the second meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Minamata Convention on Mercury with regard to the adoption of guidelines on the environmentally sound interim storage of mercury, other than waste mercury, referred to in paragraphs 2 and 3 of Article 10 of the convention. Is it agreed that the proposal does not require further scrutiny? Agreed.

I propose to suspend the sitting briefly to allow witnesses to take their seats in advance of the next part of the meeting, which involves detailed scrutiny of the Digital Safety Commissioner Bill 2017.

Sitting suspended at 11.26 a.m. and resumed at 11.29 a.m.
