JOINT COMMITTEE ON EUROPEAN AFFAIRS díospóireacht -
Wednesday, 5 Oct 2005

Business of Joint Committee.

It is proposed to defer consideration of a report on the trip to the Czech Republic until the next meeting. Is that agreed? Agreed. Are the minutes of the meeting of 28 September agreed? Agreed.

I refer to the draft agenda and registration and hotel booking forms for an interparliamentary conference on the free movement of workers within the European Union to be held in Prague. The committee's budget is almost exhausted. However, as this conference is relevant to the work the committee is about to undertake, I propose to seek additional funds and the attendance of two members, if possible. Is that agreed? Agreed. I will report back to the committee.

Correspondence was received from Ms Sinead McCann regarding the Sub-Committee on European Scrutiny and decisions taken on 21 September 2002. It was proposed to note decisions taken at the meeting. I draw attention to document SEC (2005) 547 regarding the preliminary draft general budget of the EU for 2006. The document has been referred to the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Finance and the Public Service for scrutiny and forwarded to us for information. It is proposed to note it. Is that agreed? Agreed.

Correspondence was received from Mr. Sean Aylward, Secretary General of the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform regarding participation at the next committee meeting. It is proposed to note this correspondence. Correspondence was also received from the Senate of the Republic of the Philippines regarding rules and procedures for ACEP. It is proposed to note it. Correspondence was received from Deputy Ó Snodaigh regarding today's meeting. It is proposed to note it. Correspondence was received from the Chairman of the Committee on European Integration of the Bulgarian National Assembly. It is proposed to note it.

The joint committee went into private session at 4.10 p.m. and adjourned at 4.20 p.m. until 9.30 a.m. on Thursday, 13 October 2005.
