Vol. 1 No. 5

EXPIRING LAWS CONTINUANCE BILL.

AN CATHAOIRLEACH

In accordance with the motion just passed, the proper course now is that some member should move that the Seanad do pass the Expiring Laws Continuance Bill.

I think we should move our agreement with these two measures.

AN CATHAOIRLEACH

Yes, that is what I suggest.

I move, therefore:—"That the Seanad do adopt the Expiring Laws Continuance Bill, and that it be passed through all its stages."

This Bill is in the nature of a hardy annual. Every year a Bill of this kind has to be passed. There are ever so many Acts under which we carry on our business only passed for one year and these Acts have to be perennially renewed, and this Bill is for the purpose of giving anyone who wishes to object to a particular Act an opportunity of getting rid of it by moving its rejection at the proper time. I understand all the Acts we are asked to continue in this Bill are Acts we must have and there is no reason why we should not accept the proposals made by the Dáil. Therefore I move that we agree with the proposals of the Dáil, with reference to the Expiring Laws Continuance Bill.

I beg to second that proposal.

Question: "That the Seanad do adopt the Expiring Laws Continuance Bill. and that it be deemed to have passed through all its stages," put and agreed to.
