Vol. 3 No. 12

SEANAD IN COMMITTEE. - DÁIL EIREANN COURTS (WINDING UP) ACT, 1923, AMENDMENT BILL, 1924.—(THIRD STAGE).

Section 1 to 7 inclusive, ordered to stand part of the Bill.
NEW SECTION.
The following amendment stood on the Orders of the Day in the name of Sir Thomas Esmonde:—
Immediately before Section 8 to insert a new Section 8 as follows:—
Nothing in this Act or in the principal Act shall have the effect of preventing any lands, the subject of proceedings before the Commissioners, from being dealt with by the Irish Land Commission under the Land Law or Land Purchase Acts or of abrogating or impairing any of the powers of the Irish Land Commission in respect thereto, whether such powers be exercised for the purpose of recovering arrears of purchase annuities or arrears of interest in lieu of rent, or for any other purpose for which they might have lawfully exercised such powers had this Act not been passed.

AN CATHAOIRLEACH

This amendment, I understand, was put down at the request of the Government, but it is not marked as a Government amendment, and therefore I cannot put it from the Chair.

On behalf of Senator Sir Thomas Esmonde, I beg to move the amendment.

AN CATHAOIRLEACH

I hope there is authority for the statement that this is a Government amendment, as I myself know nothing about it, and the Minister is not here. I am assured by officials that they have been informed that this is a Government amendment, so the responsibility will lie upon the Government, not upon the Seanad.

Somebody will wake up before the Report Stage, at any rate.

AN CATHAOIRLEACH

Perhaps.

Amendment put and agreed to.
New section ordered to stand part of the Bill.
Section 8 ordered to stand part of the Bill.
Bill, as amended, ordered to be Reported.
