Vol. 3 No. 26

BUSINESS OF THE SEANAD.

AN CATHAOIRLEACH

Perhaps, while waiting for the Minister, I might inform the Seanad that I understand it is the intention of a Deputy in the Dáil to move, on Friday next, that under the Standing Orders a conference of a certain number of representatives of the Seanad and Dáil should meet with a view to seeing whether they can adjust the differences that have arisen in the matter of the Intoxicating Liquor Bill, 1924. In the event of a resolution of that kind being carried in the Dáil on Friday, in order to make it effective it will be necessary that a similar resolution will be passed in the Seanad, and therefore I think I might be able to announce, definitely, later on, that I hope the Senators will be prepared to be here on Friday, because I think it is almost inevitable that they should meet on Friday. I suggest to the Seanad that it would be most convenient that we should meet at one o'clock. For this reason, that if this motion that I mention is put forward, it will be passed by that time and it will reach us by one o'clock. It would then be for us to pass a similar motion and adjourn until three o'clock. In the meantime the conference could meet and see whether they could arrive at a solution. I mention this matter now so that the Senators, when making their arrangements, would bear it in mind that we are having this meeting of the Seanad on Friday.

I think if five members have to be nominated they will be nominated in the Seanad when the resolution is passed, if it is passed.
