ACOUSTIC PROPERTIES OF THE CHAMBER.

AN CATHAOIRLEACH

I have been asked by the Board of Works to find out from Senators if they have found that the acoustic arrangements in this Chamber have been improved by the alterations that have been carried out. So far as I could gather their opinion, it was that there had been a distinct improvement, and the idea apparently is that when the complete furnishing of the Chamber has been carried out, with curtains in the various rooms and recesses, the acoustic properties will be excellent. At any rate, I think the improvement that has been made is sufficient to justify us in hoping for the best.

As one who suffers from deafness, may I express the opinion that, since the alterations have been carried out in this Chamber, I can hear much better than I could before.

The valance that was hung from the ceiling, and which was there at our last meeting, certainly effected a considerable improvement. I observe that it is not there to-day.

AN CATHAOIRLEACH

As I see the Chairman of the Board of Works in the House, may I say to him that it is the opinion of Senators, so far as I have been able to gather their testimony, that the acoustic arrangements here have been much improved by the alterations that have been carried out. I hope, as a result of what the Board of Works will be able to do for us in the near future, that in this matter we will reach a stage of perfection.
