I move: That Seanad Eireann do not insist on amendment No. 10.
Milk and Dairies Bill, 1934—Message from the Dáil.
I second.
I am sorry that the Parliamentary Secretary who was in charge of the Bill in this House on the last occasion is not here to-day. It is rather a pity that the Government should object to this amendment. It was in the interests of the public health that this House passed it; I do not know why it should be objected to in the Dáil. In the last three or four years there was a very serious epidemic of sore throat in Howth. A very large number of people were affected and there were a number of deaths. If the same occurred in Dublin the absence of this amendment would mean delay of three or four days in which a number of people might become infected before the source of the infection was discovered. However, as the Parliamentary Secretary is not here to offer an explanation, I do not think it is worth while dividing the Seanad.
