Vol. 23 No. 11

Death of Senator.

It is with very deep regret that I announce to the House the death, since our last meeting, of Senator Colonel Maurice C. Moore.

Colonel Moore was, from the establishment of the Seanad, a member of the House, and his contributions to the debates, and to work in Committee, were of very great value. Until failing health prevented him he was assiduous in his attendances at meetings. During his time in the Seanad his relations with all members of the House were of the most cordial character. A resolute opponent in controversy, he was, nevertheless, tactful and genial, and had a high sense of honour. Holding strong views, he was courageous in the expression of them. Of his work for the nation outside of this Assembly it is unnecessary for me to speak. His work will be remembered. His passing has removed from Irish political life a link extending back to the days of the Repeal Movement.

With the assent of the House, I shall convey to the widow and to the relatives of the deceased Senator, the expression of our sincere sympathy. Would Senators be good enough to signify their assent by rising in their places?

Senators rose in their places.
