Vol. 25 No. 22

Housing (Amendment) Bill, 1941—Final Stages.

Question proposed: "That the Bill be received for final consideration."

There is one matter I want to mention in this connection. Senator Healy said here, on the Committee Stage, that my Department had held up tenders for Cook Street flats for months. Here are the facts. Tenders were received by the Corporation in February, 1941, and they were received in my Department from the Corporation three months after, on 9th May, 1941. They were referred back to the Corporation as being excessive and sanction refused on 22nd May, 1941. That shows a period of three months in respect of the Corporation and 13 days with regard to us. I think he said the Department wanted a manager, but I am afraid some other people require a manager, too.
