The first business to be considered to-day is the Social Welfare Bill, 1948—Second Stage. Before we begin the Second Stage of this Bill I should like to call attention to a typographical error on page 20. The heading to the Schedule to Section 57 is printed as "Table to Section 55." The number should be "57."
In connection with the business to-day I should say that the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Local Government will find it difficult to attend the House to-morrow, and he has asked me whether the House would be kind enough to meet his convenience by taking the resumption of the debate on item No. 2 at, say, 9.30 to-night, or earlier, if the Second Stage of the Social Welfare Bill is concluded, to enable him to make the official reply to the motion. If the debate on that item be not concluded by 10 o'clock, then it can be resumed to-morrow.
