Vol. 55 No. 9

Business of Seanad.

We shall have to take the Restrictive Trade Practices Bill because the Minister for Justice is engaged in the Dáil.

We were promised an announcement with regard to the Appropriation Bill.

I am not in a position to inform the Seanad yet but I shall do so later on.

Will the Seanad meet tomorrow?

I am not in a position to say that yet.

At what time? I should like to make it a point that we all feel it is far too rushed that the Appropriation Bill should be taken tomorrow, within hours of its passage through the Dáil, if it does pass tonight.

It has passed.

We feel it is only bringing this House into disrepute that we should be regarded as a mere rubber stamp of the other House.

I should like to support that point of view. We would like time to consider the matter. It would be more seemly to take the Appropriation Bill next Wednesday. I am sure we would get a better standard of debate.

The matter can be raised later on.

Personally, I agree with Senator Quinlan and Senator Stanford.

I have no objection whatsoever to putting off the Appropriation Bill until next week, if it will facilitate Senators. I wanted to have some discussion before making a definite announcement.
