Vol. 73 No. 7

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take Nos. 1, 2 and 3 on the Order Paper.

May I ask the Leader of the House if it is proposed to take any more motions before the Seanad rises? There are two motions on the Order Paper, the first of which, No. 18, relates to the European Community and calls upon the Government to seek the reform of the Community Institutions. Since the Dáil has risen and the motion on the European Communities was not debated before it rose, this would give Parliament an opportunity to debate the questions at the summit conference if it takes place in October.

The second motion, No. 19, relates to the Kennedy Report on the Reformatory and Industrial Schools Systems. Very widespread discontent and apprehension have been engendered as to why the proposals of the Kennedy Report, which is now over two years old, have not been fully implemented and why Marlborough House is still open despite the very strong recommendation for its closure in that report. This motion would also provide a very useful topic for discussion before the Seanad rises. I should like to know if it is intended to devote some days to debating motions and if it would be possible to debate these two motions during that time?

I should like to support Senator Mrs. Robinson particularly in regard to Motion No. 18.

It is not proposed to take any motions before the Seanad rises.
