Vol. 103 No. 4

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take Nos. 1, 2 and 3, in that order. The Minister for Foreign Affairs has an important meeting at 3.30 p.m. Accordingly, the proposition is that we should take No. 1 from 2.30 p.m. to 3.30 p.m. during which the Minister will make what we hope will be a substantial contribution to the debate. It is proposed at 3.30 to take No. 2, the Landlord and Tenant Bill, and if that is concluded before 5.30 p.m., to resume No. 1. Since there is a matter on the Adjournment it is proposed that Private Members' Business should be taken from 6.30 p.m. until 8 p.m. There will be a suspension of the sitting from 5.30 p.m. until 6.30 p.m.

On No. 2, what Stages of the Bill will be taken today?

In regard to the Landlord and Tenant Bill, this is a somewhat technical Bill. It is one on which Committee Stage could be important, and indeed it might be one on which the Opposition would like to have a separate Committee Stage debate. I would like to inform the House that I have already apprised the Minister of this. The Minister will be out of the country next week. He will be engaged in the Dáil on this day fortnight since the Criminal Justice Bill will then be taken in Committee. I am not saying that as an indication that I would not be prepared to agree to a separate Committee Stage next week, but it does mean that if it is postponed until next week, the Minister who knows the Bill best would not be available and somebody else would have to be briefed in his place.

Order of Business agreed to.
