Vol. 114 No. 14

Business of Seanad.

With the permission of Senator Hussey and the Minister, as we are making progress on the legislation now I propose that at 8 p.m. after the other business that has been ordered, the House sit possibly for one hour in order to finish the remaining part of Committee Stage and Report Stage. The Minister has already intimated his ideas on Report Stage. Will Senator Hussey be available after 8 p.m. this evening? I should like the House to accept this as obviously it is only the Senators who are present who have an interest in the Bill. If the House agrees I propose that we resume the debate at 8 p.m.

I would dearly wish to do this because I am most anxious that this legislation be passed by both Houses of the Oireachtas in time for the lambing season. We have a problem with Report Stage. I hope that if we can successfully conclude Committee Stage this evening we can possibly take Report Stage next week, with the permission of Senators. It is straightforward legislation; we have gone through it fairly thoroughly this evening. The problem is an administrative one, that the amendments have to be circulated to the Members of the House.

We already decided today we would take Report Stage.

I have no objection to the suggestion. In fact I would say that perhaps half an hour would finish the whole thing, because the remaining part of the Bill is non-contentious as far as I can see. I have no interest in holding it up. I had hoped that we would have gone through all stages today.

You have been very cooperative on both sides of the House.

Sitting suspended at 5.30 p.m. and resumed at 6.30 p.m.
