Vol. 115 No. 5

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator Jim Higgins that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Environment to approve a slip road as part of the proposal to construct a bypass on the N.17 around Claremorris town.

I also received notice from Senator Michael D. Higgins of the following matter:—

The need for clarification of the effect of drainage schemes in the County Galway area on the livelihood of small farmers in view of proposals to implement a charge for drainage to move from a direct labour to a contract basis and the imposition of a contribution for maintenance of the existing drainage schemes.

I also received notice from Senator Séamus de Brún of the following matter:—

The need for the Minister for Education to reconsider the case of the three All-Irish primary schools, namely, Ring Mahon and Parklands, Cork City, and Cnoc Theas, Limerick, which have been in voluntary operation since last September, with a view to sanctioning all three schools to full recognition under the Department of Education.

I regard the matters raised by Senators Jim and Michael D. Higgins and Senator de Brún as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected Senator Jim Higgins's matter for today's Adjournment and it will be taken from 8 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. Senators Michael D. Higgins and de Brún may give notice for another day of the matters they wish to raise.
