Vol. 116 No. 7

Request under Standing Order 29.

I have had notice from Senator Brendan Ryan regarding a motion which he wishes to move under Standing Order 29, which I referred to on the Order of Business today. I now call on Senator Brendan Ryan.

I wish to move a motion for the adjournment of the Seanad on a specific and important matter of public interest requiring urgent consideration, the matter being—

The crisis in the hospital services resulting from the industrial action being taken by non-consultant Hospital Doctors.

I have decided that the motion is one covered by the Standing Order and I ask, therefore, the Senators who support the request to rise in their places.

More than five Senators rose.

Thank you. The debate on the motion will take place, therefore, from 8 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. In view of my acceptance earlier today of a motion by Senator Cregan my agreement to taking your motion, Senator Ryan, means that Senator Cregan's motion will have to be taken on another day. I think he has graciously accepted this decision. I now call on Senator Kennedy to continue.
