Vol. 118 No. 9

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator David Norris that, on the Motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The condition of the paintings in the possession of the National Gallery of Ireland.

I also received notice from Senator Paul Bradford of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Agriculture and Food to expedite the processing of applications by farmers throughout the north Cork region for inclusion in the disadvantaged areas scheme.

I also received notice from Senator Joe Doyle of the following matter:

The urgent need for the Minister for Energy to implement in full the recommendations of the Cremer and Warner Report.

I also received notice from Senator Nuala Fennell of the following matter:

In view of the imminent closure of the Aim Group Centre for Family Law because of lack of funds, the need for the Minister for Health to sanction the grant they critically need.

I also received notice from Senator Philip Hogan of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Marine to take effective action to conserve and protect the fishing stocks of our inland waters in view of the illegal destruction of those stocks.

I also received notice from Senator John Connor of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Finance to ensure that there will be no enforced redundancies on the Boyle Drainage Scheme Headquarters in Ballaghaderreen in line with the commitment given in the Programme for National Recovery.

I regard the matters raised by Senators Norris, Bradford, Doyle, Hogan and Connor as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected Senator Norris's motion and it will be taken from 8 p.m. to 8.30 p.m., or earlier if the business ordered is concluded. Senators Bradford, Doyle, Hogan and Connor may give notice for another day of the matters they wish to raise.

I regret I have to rule the matter raised by Senator Fennell is not suitable for discussion on the Adjournment on the ground of lack of ministerial responsibility. We will, therefore, take on the Adjournment this evening the matter raised by Senator Norris.
