Vol. 127 No. 1

Request under Standing Order 29.

I have notice from Senator Norris regarding a motion he wishes to move under Standing Order 29. I now call on Senator Norris to give notice of the motion before I give my ruling. It is important to point out to the Senator that he will not be allowed to elaborate and make a speech.

I wish to move the Adjournment of the Seanad on a specific and important matter of public interest requiring urgent consideration, the matter being the need for the Minister for the Environment to intervene immediately, using the powers vested in him under the Derelect Sites Bill, to secure two list one buildings in Dublin — Nos. 5 and 6 North Great George's Street, Dublin 1 — from imminent threat of demolition.

I have given careful consideration to the matter raised by Senator Norris and I cannot consider it to be one contemplated under Standing Order 29. I regret, therefore, I have to rule it out of order.
