Vol. 128 No. 6

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator Rory Kiely that, on the motion of the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Industry and Commerce to introduce regulations regarding price control in supermarkets so as to ensure fair competition and avoid monopolies in certain products.

I also received notice from Senator Dan Neville of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education to fulfil her commitment to construct a second-level school at Rathkeale, County Limerick.

Tá fógra agam ón Seanadóir Pól Ó Foighil:

Chun a fhiafraí den Aire Comhshaoil an mbeadh sé sásta leasú caoi a cur i gcrích len a chinntiú nach bhféadfaí cearta vótála a bhaint go héagórach de shaoránach cáilithe i bhfianaise a tharla i gceantar Charna i mbliana nuair a baineadh breis is 200 ainm de liosta na gClár Toghthóirí go mí-dhleathach.

I also received notice from Senator David Norris of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Environment to take urgent action to prevent the further vandalising or destruction of an important listed building, No. 7 Bachelors Walk, Dublin 1, by British Aerospace or its subsidiary Arlington Securities.

I also received notice from Senator Donie Cassidy of the following matter:

The need for the Minister to retain Mullingar railway station at its present status to cater for Mullingar, the capital town of the midlands.

I regard the matters raised by Senators Kiely, Neville and Ó Foighil as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected Senator Kiely's matter and it will be taken at the conclusion of business. Senators Neville and Ó Foighil may give notice on another day of the matters they wish to raise.

I regret that I have to rule the matters raised by Senators Norris and Cassidy are not suitable for discussion on the Adjournment on the grounds of lack of ministerial responsibility.
