Vol. 136 No. 6

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator Daly that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health to provide additional funding for the improvement of services including maternity services at the General Hospital, Ennis; to indicate his plans for the long term development of acute medical surgical services at the hospital and the appointment of additional nurses to help alleviate the workload on the existing staff; and if he will give an assurance that no wards will be closed during the summer period.

I also received notice from Senator Burke of the following matter:

The need for the Government to honour a specific commitment given on behalf of the Government to provide quality third level courses by way of regional college development in Castlebar, County Mayo, and the need for the Minister for Education to authorise such courses in 1993.

I also received notice from Senator Maloney of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Finance to examine the difficulties being experienced by farmers in County Donegal who are due moneys from the EC fund for the seed potato disaster.

I also received notice from Senator Neville of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education to sanction the appointment of a home/school liaison officer at St. Anne's primary school, Rathkeale, County Limerick, in view of the large number of traveller children attending this school.

I also received notice from Senator Ross of the following matter:

The need for the Minister of the Environment to extend the urban renewal scheme to Wicklow town and to further parts of Bray, County Wicklow.

I regard the matters raised by Senators Daly, Burke, Maloney, Neville and Ross as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected Senators Daly's and Burke's matters and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. Senators Maloney, Neville and Ross may give notice on another day of the matters they wish to raise.
