Vol. 140 No. 21

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator Taylor-Quinn that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, she proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications to outline his attitude to Aeroflot's application for pick up rights at Shannon to New York and Boston.

I have also received notice from Senator McGennis of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Environment to amend the terms of the local government officers widows and orphans contributory pension scheme, 1984, as extended to female local authority and health board officers, to take account of circumstances involving separation of spouses arising subsequent to them joining the scheme.

I have also received notice from Senator Neville of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Foreign Affairs to support Resolution 47/19 of the United Nations General Assembly, entitled necessity of ending economic, commercial and financial embargoes imposed by the United States of America against Cuba.

I have also received notice from Senator Cotter of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Environment to take note of the difficulties facing both the settled population and itinerant families because of the very poor conditions at the halting site outside Castleblayney, County Monaghan, and the danger of a complete breakdown of inter-community relationships.

I have also received notice from Senator Henry of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Justice to outline if the Government intends ratifying the United Nations Convention against Torture and other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment, of 10 December 1984.

I regard the matters raised as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected Senator Taylor-Quinn's and Senator McGennis's matters and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. Senators Neville, Cotter and Henry may give notice on another day of the matters they wish to raise.
