Business of Seanad.

I have received notice from Senator Mooney that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he wishes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education to extend public liability insurance for pupils attending Carrick-on-Shannon community school in order that school buses may dispatch and pick up students in the car park of the sports complex adjoining the community school, and so resolve a disagreement between CIE and the Summerhill Residents Association.

I also received notice from Senator Naughten of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry to outline the action taken by his Department to limit the loss of milk production at primary level from sensitive zones to other areas of the country, particularly in view of the present situation at Shannonside.

I also received notice from Senator Ross of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education to ensure that the examination papers for the junior certificate are printed in this country.

I also received notice from Senator Rory Kiely of the following matter:

The proposal by the Minister for Justice to dispense with sittings of the Circuit Court in Rathkeale, County Limerick, and to transfer the entire list for their sittings to Limerick City.

I also received notice from Senator Wall of the following matter:

The need for the Minister of the Environment to outline when the study of funding of local government will be commissioned and when it is likely to report given the strong feeling of inequity among people concerning service charges.

I have also received notice from Senator Fahey of the following matter:

To ask the Minister for Education the plans she has for the introduction for an early retirement scheme for teachers as promised at teachers conferences in 1993.

I have also received notice from Senator Finneran of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Finance to immediately provide assistance to those affected by the widespread flooding in the Shannon/Suck catchment area and to take steps to avoid the recurrence of such flooding.

I have also received notice from Senator Daly of the following matter:

To ask the Minister for Finance to outline the action he proposes to take to deal with the very serious flooding problems at Sixmilebridge. Ballyvaughan and Leadmore. County Clare; and if funding will be provided to deal with the flooding problems in these areas.

I have also received notice from Senator Henry of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Justice to urgently introduce measures into penal institutions to reduce the risk of suicide of detained persons.

I regard the matters raised as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected Senator Mooney's and Senator Naughten's matters and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. The other Senators may give notice on another day of the matter they wish to raise.
