Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator Byrne that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry to review the operation of the European Community's (Fees for Health Inspection and Control of Fresh Meat) Regulations, 1995, in view of the impact and cost of the regulations on local authorities and abattoir operators under the Abattoirs Act, 1988.

I have also received notice from Senator Cotter of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Foreign Affairs to continue his intensive efforts to protect the lives of the homeless Rwandan refugees in eastern Zaire.

I have also received notice from Senator Taylor-Quinn of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education to provide a new classroom, toilet block and ancillary accommodation at Kilmurry national school, Ennis, County Clare; and if she is aware of the very real necessity of having the finance for this project included in the capital building programme.

I have also received notice from Senator Sherlock of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry to rectify the anomaly under EU regulations which precludes farmers growing peas for green harvesting from area aid, resulting in the loss of 50 jobs at Universal Dehydrates Limited, Midleton, County Cork.

I have also received notice from Senator Kelly of of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry to outline the reason so few agricultural projects are being funded under the Leader II Programme.

I have also received notice from Senator Reynolds of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health to provide funding in 1996 and 1997 for the first phase development of a residential hospice service for the North-West Hospice.

I have also received notice from Senator Fahey of the following matter:

To ask the Minister for the Environment if he will meet a deputation from the Knocknacarragh Combined Residents Association, Galway, with a view to providing £1 million to Galway Corporation for the Western Distributor Road.

I regard the matters raised by the Senators as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment and I have selected Senator Byrne's and Senator Cotter's matters and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. The other Senators may give notice on another day of the matters they wish to raise.
