Education for Persons with Disabilities Bill, 2002: Order for Second Stage.

Bill entitled an Act to make further provision for the education of people with disabilities, to provide that, to the greatest extent practicable, people with disabilities shall have the same right to avail of, and benefit from, appropriate education as do their peers who do not have disabilities, to assist children with disabilities to leave school with the skills necessary to participate, to the greatest extent practicable, in an inclusive way in the social and economic activities of society and to live independent and fulfilled lives, to provide for consultation with parents of children with disabilities in relation to the education of those children, to ensure that schools and public bodies involved in the education of people with disabilities act in a co-ordinated way in the interests of those people, for those purposes to establish a body to be known as the National Council for Special Education and to define its functions, to confer certain functions on health boards in relation to the education of people with disabilities, to enable certain decisions made in relation to the education of people with disabilities to be subject of an appeal to an Appeals Board and to provide for related matters.
