I move:
That pursuant to subsection 2 of section 2 of Article 25 of the Constitution, Seanad Éireann concurs with the Government in a request to the President to sign the Civil Registration Bill 2003 on a date which is earlier than the fifth day after the date on which the Bill shall have been presented to her.
Why?
We are entitled to know why there is such urgency with the Civil Registration Bill.
I agree.
Perhaps it is because the original Bill was over 100 years old.
It is a Cabinet decision.
This is the Seanad.
Did the Cathaoirleach say it was a Cabinet decision? This is the Seanad.
The Cabinet has nothing to do with Seanad Éireann.
On a point of order, if the Leader is presenting a motion for earlier signature to the House, we have the right to debate it.
