I have received notice from Senator Higgins that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:
The need for the Minister for Foreign Affairs to substantially increase funding under the DION fund to relieve the plight of hard pressed Irish emigrants in Britain, particularly in the light of the recent RTE "Prime Time" special programme; and the need to assist in the purchase of the Cricklewood centre for emigrants which is closing down.
I have also received notice from Senator Brian Hayes of the following matter:
The need for the Minister for Social and Family Affairs to clarify the reason school wardens employed by various local authorities, unlike other seasonal workers, can no longer obtain payment when out of work.
I have also received notice from Senator Henry of the following matter:
The need for the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment to outline the reason she has not made a decision regarding the need or otherwise for work permits for postgraduate medical and nursing students on courses here where work is an integral part of the course of study being undertaken, with particular reference to the Euro College Institute of Education.
I regard the matters raised by the Senators as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment and they will be taken at the conclusion of business.
