Vol. 206 No. 1

Business of Seanad

I have received notice from Senator Cecilia Keaveney that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, she proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health and Children, given the cost to the Exchequer of alcohol abuse, to provide an update on the current actions to curb such abuse and the current status of provisions providing for the labelling of alcohol products.

I have also received notice from Senator Marc MacSharry of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health and Children to ensure adequate funds are made available to Sligo General Hospital for the operation of the bus bringing patients for cancer treatment to University College Hospital, Galway from the €750,000 fund announced as being ringfenced for such purposes.

I have also received notice from Senator James Carroll of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources to outline the reason for Ireland's decision to go for an alternative free-to-air digital transmission platform to that of the United Kingdom.

I regard the matters raised by Senators Keaveney and MacSharry as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. I regret that I have had to rule out of order the matter raised by Senator Carroll as the Minister has no official responsibility in the matter.
