Business of Seanad

I have received notice from Senator John Whelan that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Children and Youth Affairs to set out the criteria, process and timelines for the allocation of resources for youth services this year with particular reference to the provision of badly-needed youth café facilities in towns such as Monasterevin, County Kildare.

I have also received notice from Senator David Cullinane of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health to discuss the reduction in staff numbers employed at Waterford Regional Hospital from 2007 to 2014 notably the reduction in whole-time equivalent, WTE, numbers from 1903.01 in July 2007 to 1597.29 in January 2014 and to outline the plans the HSE has to increase staff numbers at the hospital in 2014.

I have also received notice from Senator Colm Burke of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Finance to meet with the insurance industry with a view to setting up a central insurance fund to pay for households and businesses which cannot currently get insurance for flood damage.

I have also received notice from Senator Thomas Byrne of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Defence to outline the future position of the Army bomb disposal team at Gormanstown Camp, County Meath, as well as the future position of B Company, 27th Battalion, at Gormanstown Camp, County Meath.

I have also received notice from Senator Lorraine Higgins of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht to review the restrictions imposed by the EU habitats directive to the carrying out of essential works on the rivers Shannon, Dunkellin and Cloon and other rivers in the south Galway area to reduce the impact of flooding on property owners and farmers.

I have also received notice from Senator Mark Daly of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform to make funding available immediately for commercial property owners in County Kerry who have suffered severe damage and loss following the recent storms.

I regard the matters raised by Senators John Whelan, David Cullinane, Colm Burke and Thomas Byrne as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. Senator Higgins may give notice on another day of the matter she wishes to raise. I regret that I must rule out of order the matter raised by Senator Mark Daly as the Minister has no official responsibility in the matter.
