Vol. 257 No. 12

Business of Seanad

I have received notice from Senator Martin Conway that, on the motion for the Commencement of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education and Skills to outline the measures being planned to address the shortage of chefs in the hospitality industry.

I have also received notice from Senator Jennifer Murnane O’Connor of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education and Skills to outline the time remaining in the examinership for the Sammon Group and Carillion; and the amount paid to the Sammon Group from Carillion on each school project, specifically Tyndall College, Carlow, and up to what date were they paid.

I have also received notice from Senator Maria Byrne of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health to consider including physiotherapists on the list of referrers for X-rays.

I have also received notice from Senator Robbie Gallagher of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government to confirm when he intends to announce the funding for group sewerage schemes, and if he will confirm when the Milltown sewerage scheme, County Monaghan can expect confirmation of funding.

I have also received notice from Senator Aodhán Ó Ríordáin of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health to provide an update on the provision of a 20-room unit for cystic fibrosis patients, which was included in the programme for Government.

I have also received notice from Senator Colm Burke of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Justice and Equality to outline when the members of the Garda who have retired from the Mayfield area in Cork city will be replaced.

I have also received notice from Senator Frank Feighan of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform to outline how Boyle, County Roscommon, can benefit under Project Ireland 2040, the Government’s national development plan.

Of the matters raised by the Senators that are suitable for discussion, I have selected the matters raised by Senators Conway, Murnane O’Connor, Byrne and Gallagher and they will be taken now. I regret I had to rule out of order the matter submitted by Senator Colm Burke on the ground that the Minister has no official responsibility in the matter. I also regret I had to rule out of order the matter submitted by Senator Feighan on the ground that it is a repeat of the statements on Project Ireland 2040 held in the Seanad yesterday and on 7 March 2018. Senator Ó Ríordáin may give notice on another day of the matter that he wishes to raise.
