Vol. 258 No. 3

Childcare Support Bill 2017: Report and Final Stages

I welcome the Minister, Deputy Zappone, to the House. We always like to see her coming back to her alma mater, so to speak. This should not be a very difficult matter as there are no amendments.

Bill reported without amendment and received for final consideration.
Question proposed: "That the Bill do now pass."

This is one of my favourite places and it has my favourite people.

You are always welcome here.

Thank you. I express my gratitude for the engagement with the Senators and other Members who made the Bill better in the Dáil and here. It is really a great day for children.

One comment I shared with my officials, who also made a terrific contribution to this process, is that this is a very positive Bill. We had very constructive engagement all the way, beginning in the committee and ending in the Houses, in this House in particular. The Bill will go to the Dáil soon and then it will be completed. I thank the Senators and appreciate their contributions.

I thank the Minister for her endeavours and her officials for all the work they have done on the Bill. As the Minister said, it is a very positive day for children, and it is good to see it at this Stage.

I congratulate the Minister on the passing of the Bill in this House. We have made our concerns and our support known. I am sure it is a matter of great pride for the Minister to get the Bill passed.

I call Senator Ned O'Sullivan to make a concluding remark.

On behalf of my side of the House, I also congratulate and commend the Minister on the passing of the Bill and wish her well.

Question put and agreed to.

That concludes the business of the day. When is it proposed to sit again?

On Tuesday next, 22 May, at 2.30 p.m.

The Seanad adjourned at 12.25 p.m. until 2.30 p.m. on Tuesday, 22 May 2018.
