Vol. 285 No. 1

Gnó an tSeanaid - Business of Seanad

I have received notice from Senator Jerry Buttimer, on the motion for the Commencement of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Transport to make a statement on increased investment in train services between Dublin and Cork.

I have also received notice from Senator Martin Conway of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Transport to make a statement on plans for the future operation and development of Shannon Heritage sites.

I have also received notice from Senator Mary Seery Kearney of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage to provide an update on the construction defects working group.

I have also received notice from Senator Barry Ward of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform to restore fee rates paid under the criminal legal aid scheme.

I have also received notice from Senator Tim Lombard of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage to make a statement on funding streams available to local authorities for the provision of public facilities at public amenities.

I have also received notice from Senator Sharon Keogan of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Transport to make a statement on the introduction in July of free travel on public transport for child Leap card holders.

Of the matters raised by the Senators suitable for discussion, I have selected those of Senators Buttimer, Conway, Seery Kearney and Ward and they will be taken now. I regret that I had to rule out of order the matters raised by Senators Tim Lombard and Sharon Keogan on the grounds that the relevant Ministers have no responsibility in those matters.

I welcome the Minister of State to the House. Before we take the first Commencement matter from Senator Buttimer, I would like to take the opportunity to welcome to the Distinguished Visitors Gallery Councillor Conor Casey from Montpelier in Vermont. He is most welcome. I thank him for being here today and for being part of the leadership of our American-Irish community over there.
