SELECT COMMITTEE ON ENTERPRISE AND SMALL BUSINESS díospóireacht -
Wednesday, 23 May 2001

Vol. 4 No. 7

Message to Dáil.

In accordance with Standing Order 79B, the following message will be sent to the Dáil:

The Select Committee on Enterprise and Small Business has completed its consideration of the Nítrigin Éireann Teoranta Bill, 2000.

The Clerk of the Dáil will convey that message to the Dáil at the first convenient opportunity. I thank Members for their participation in passing this relatively short but important legislation in such harmony and with such co-operation. I thank the Tánaiste and her assistant secretary, Ronald Long, for all the support the Department give to this committee. Mr. Long goes beyond his remit in accommodating certain Members of this committee, and I thank him for that. I also thank Mary O'Donnell, executive officer, for her support and would like her to pass on our appreciation to her Department. I also thank the Clerk to the committee, the support staff and one and all.

I thank you, Chairman, and members of the committee. On behalf of my excellent officials, I thank you for your kind words. Mr. Long's family lived in your constituency, so I am aware that you are aware of all the needs and interests of your constituency.

I did not say that.

I know you did not but he very much appreciates your kind words. He has, however, moved south of the river.

I heard that to my disappointment. It would not have been allowed if I had known it at the time.

I do not think Report Stage is going to tax the House. Perhaps a message to that effect could be sent to the Ceann Comhairle or, indeed, to the Whips. I am sure 20 minutes would suffice at the convenience of the Tánaiste.

That is appreciated. We will ensure that message is sent.

Will the Tánaiste ask her officials, who are so helpful to you, Chairman, and other members, to send me a brief on what we discussed, that is, the current position on Passage West.

We can arrange that.

The Select Committee adjourned at 2.30 p.m.
