SELECT COMMITTEE ON JUSTICE, EQUALITY, DEFENCE AND WOMEN'S RIGHTS díospóireacht -
Wednesday, 20 May 2009

Business of Select Committee.

This meeting has been convened to resume consideration of the Defamation Bill 2006. I welcome the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform, Deputy Dermot Ahern, and his officials. Correspondence relating to today's meeting was circulated to members. Are correspondence items Nos. 73 to 75, inclusive, 77 to 81, inclusive, and 84 agreed to? Agreed.

I have been notified by my office that it is more than likely that a private notice question on Thornton Hall will be taken in the Dáil at 3.45 p.m. Therefore, I ask that I be afforded the opportunity to be brief.

I suggest that we suspend at 3.20 p.m. or 3.30 p.m.

How about 3 p.m.?

Is it agreed that the select committee suspend at 3 p.m.?

What time is it proposed to resume? There will be a Bill in the House immediately after the private notice questions have been taken.

We will not reconvene today.

There is a wish to complete this Bill. Can we adjourn instead at 3.30 p.m.?

Private notice questions will be taken at 3.45 p.m.

I suggest 3.15 p.m. Is that agreed? Agreed.
