The industry is very concerned about the composition of the board and would like the membership to include people who are knowledgeable about the area, such as experts in human and veterinary medicine, public health experts and a consumer. It would also like a person with experience of the pharmaceutical industry, although not necessarily active in the industry at present, on the board. It would be advisable to have such personnel on the new board.

Question proposed: "That section 7 stand part of the Bill."
The industry's views will be given full consideration. However, for reasons of commercial confidentiality and possible conflicts of interest, those directly involved in the industry may not be appropriate for appointment to this board. It is a small board of nine people which is structured to achieve maximum efficiency. However, the views of the industry are very important and will be fully considered at the time the board is appointed.
