828 Ms Enright asked the Minister for Transport the number of over 70s who applied for a driving test each year; if his attention has been drawn to the cost of approximately €35 which they have to pay for their eye test; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2093/04]
Amharc ar fhreagraThe information requested by the Deputy is not available. There is no obligation on any person to undergo an eye test on taking a driving test. An eye test report must accompany an application for a provisional licence where such report or a medical report has not previously been submitted. A person over 70 years of age applying for either a provisional or a driving licence must submit a medical report. Details of licensing requirements are available on my Department's website at www.transport.ie. The cost of an eye test is a matter between the person concerned and their doctor or ophthalmic optician.
